Strange thing I can’t remember this interview on Social Media from 2005/6. If by any chance you the interviewer stumbles across this post, please get in touch.

Update: it happened. The interviewer got in touch.

elearning and authoring

articulate storylineclaro picrecently I’m very much involved in designing the creation, delivery (and acquisition) of professional elearning. Looking on the left side of the equation I found 2 excellent tools for authoring content. Articulate Storyline and Claro. The first one offers more flexibility and animation gimmicks while the latter is cloud-based and it’s output is HTML5. I’m leaning towards the latter > it gives you a centralized repository and collaboration features and offers compatibility with mobile devices like iPad, which is pretty important for my clients.

DiskWarrior on USB stick for a MacBook Air

diskwarrior mac repairSo there is this tiny notebook that comes without an internal drive. Sometimes when your OS seems broken it makes sense to repair permissions. In order to so you need to boot externally which can be done via the tool remote disk sharing. Well, there are better tools out there as a first aid if something feels wrong.

DiskWarrior is one of the best and comes to your rescue – with a little help through this guide here.

How to clone DiskWarrior to your USB stick

In order to use DiskWarrior with your MacBook Air you need to boot – like with any other Mac – from something else than the harddisk you want to repair. So if you don’t have an external Superdrive

  1. clone your latest copy of Diskwarrior to a USB stick
  2. Plug it in
  3. Restart
  4. Hold down the alt-button and boot from the USB-stick.

Before you can do it you need to run Disk Utility (Festplattendienstprogramm auf deutsch) and restore the mounted DiskWarrior CD to your USB stick as described here Creating an OS X Leopard install on a USB drive or iPod by replacing the (Snow) Leopard install disc with DiskWarrior.

Additionally I recommend installing Applejack (now available for Snow Leopard) it can help too and sits on your harddisk. You launch it via single-user mode.

transforming to an ant-state?

Since some time I devote a lot of my attention to Twitter; a fast-paced (well at least if it’s online) update stream. It connects me to many people based on simple activity updates, links or short dia/multilogical exchanges. Together with RSS-feeds that’s my basic learning environment and more. It replaced – at least for now – what I got back from blogging. It accelerated the effects of conversations. Those effects result – in general – in action. Social Media is all about bringing people virtually together to trigger actions in reality. Although there isn’t too much of a difference between the real and the virtual increased density and frequency of conversations almost always bring people together to move from one space to the other – since we inhabite many (social) spaces.

Twitter – another early adopter tool you might say – is being increasingly adopted by marketing and pr people. They start listening to what is being said about the brands they represent; they interact and try to connect in order to build trusted relationships or conversational focus groups I might say. Getting your stakeholders into constant conversations guarantees early insights and the option to influence. Read more →
