thomas n. burg – on social media and its benefits for us, and sometimes gossip.

March 21st, 2004

Finally online again. I spent the last week in Brussels visiting friends there. (Un)fortunately I was not able/willing to get online even the announcement that was supposed to appear on this place didn’t show up due to some upstreaming issues with my cellphone.

But: what is worth mentioning is what happened on Thursday/Friday in Enschede. I attended BlogWalk a grassroots workshop that was held at the Telematica Institute organized by Lilia Efimova, Sebastian Fielder, and Ton Zijlstra.
The topic of the workshop was “Weblogs and Knowledgemanagement in a corporate context”.

To make the long story short: I never experienced a more inspiring workshop. Many well known issues were raised again and by that opinions and insights were somehow magically shared and new light was shed on them.
Issues I thought are quite clear (for instance the distinction between private and public or between groupblog vs. personal blog) got a new dimension.

Different pespectives were exchanged in a very relaxing though focused atmosphere.
If there are still people believing that there isn’t a thing like blogging in the corporate world: They should have come there to engage in the discussions.

BlogWalk was/is a very special extension of BlogTalk or vice versa and it’s a proof of concept of online social networking as a tool and an apparatus for linking like-minded people and even bring them together physically.

Thanks to all who participated.
