thomas n. burg - on social media and its benefits for us, and sometimes gossip.

Well, well, well - less is more, as we know. That’s right we don’t want to have the choice. That might be the truth at least nowadays. Transfering that claim to information architecture generates a challenge.
Should we hide structures, organization, function. Yes but we never know - or better it’s hard to predcit - the users and their idiosyncrasies. Since I’m a visual type of person with disgust for messy desktops I cluster and hide as much as I can. Quite contrary to that my real desktop is a total mess. I have several topological principles in place that try to structure meaning and relevancy.

A sidenote to myself: if you think of a business model don’t try to fool the customers with pedantic cost models. Get them a flat fee - even if its more expensive.

VentureBlog: Of Searches and Psychics: The Costs of Long Tail Businesses: “Search tools are improving significantly, matching content or products with people. As search costs continue to fall, expect an increased focus on psychic costs. Simplicity, limited choice, and hiding the masses of data will all become more common. Even sophisticated consumers prefer limited choice when the transactions are tiny.”
