thomas n. burg – on social media, software tools and its benefits for us, and sometimes gossip.

April 28th, 2005

In a few hours I’ll take off to Australia, thus some housekeeping is required (firewalls etc, you know). I just checked the newsreader to find some 100 news unread. What striked me most was the ongoing discussion about the German blogosphere. It seems as if there is an urgent need to talk about it in a rather eary-eyed tone. It is boring to talk extensivly about a putative deficit of something. We shoud rather talk about differences and do what we think is right. Comments are necessary but – per definitionem – only comments. So here is my comment.

It started in France here by Jochen Wegner, whose (and others) apparent interest it is to lament about the deficits in the German blogging world. Well, it already started in Munich when Jochen somehow got on the panel (you will not find him on that page) to offer us insights in the Geman blogosphere – ok, he is from Focus that made him obviously an asset and gave him a voice. Although it is similarily boring to view blogging as some kind of fancy amateur-journalism it is the starting point of lots of recent discussions. This rhetorical trope is almost a historical one (implicitly looking for a saviour). It is a culturally deeply embedded longing for an authority that drives those frustrated odes that cannot wait any longer for him. Or her: the bloggg of the German world. Is that really of essence in a global world? I dare to doubt that.

Instead of complaining, do the things you think that comfort you and maybe others. Have fun!
