Interesting! I’m researching the [tag-ice]online storage[/tag-ice] competition recently. Definitely a place that’s heating up. Swisscom seems to strive for a role as a significant player in this market. They just invested 2,3 million Euros in Diino, a Swedish online storage firm. Some time before they partnered with FAST LTA to host the promising Swiss online [tag-tec]storage[/tag-tec] service Fotobank.de. Swisscom is using EMC-products for their service-infrastructure. Here the blog of its CDO (Chief Development Officer) Mark Lewis.
Just another [tag-tec]carrier[/tag-tec] that wants to move its business beyond just providing internet access and (mobile) phone services. Compare that call to action for Swisscom from 2003.
Update: it seems as if Swisscom is looking for use cases for its storage infrastructure (PDF) (see above)
