A good read over there on the cultural implications of Social Software (Web 2.0) on individuals and businesses
10 BIG effects of social software
3. Your professional competence will be more and more visible.
I’m particularily interested in the notion of [tag-tec]visibility[/tag-tec] as I think this is paramount to socializing and that in turn is an essential for forming knowledgeable communication acts and groups. An old insight but innovation if you are going to implement that concept in organizations.
Well, then on the other hand I’m pretty skeptic that the advent of Social Software will transform our cultural ground the way it’s forseen in this article (the change for the better more open world). More – and I’m quite ambiguous on that – those transformations will emerge as something completely different: new Intelligence Services and gaps will emerge related to media literacy – business opportunities if you like. Therefore it’s in “almost” everybodies interest and particularily in the interest of enterprises to have a high proportion of literate employees among their workforce and still there will be some that heavily benefit from a scarcity in that area.
Concluding that somehow erratic reasoning: I think that the world will change or better adapt slowly. There will be some individuals/enterprises that are able to take advantage of the new opportunities. But those will likely be new ones and not the established organizations. Thus be aware if you are in the position to innovate.
