Only a few days ago I joined MindMeister, a web-based mindmapping and productivity tool as Marketing Manager. I was always a heavy mindmapper occasionally taking a hiatus to go with other note-takers but always returning to mindmaps as a formidable helper for getting things organized and making it visible/presentable to me an others. Eventually after my desktop app NovaMind crashed continuously on launch I decided to dare a straight step in to web-based mindmapping. Back then - after carefully evaluating 3 or 4 products - I decided to go with MindMeister - see this post from May 2007. Since I also wanted to convert my fellow co-workers and partners I needed a service I can trust. MindMeister’s pricing plan (put aside the user experience and feature set and the discount and service convinced me finally. So we became the third firm that signed up.

Funny thing after becoming kind of an evangelist we started talking about a possible collaboration just as I returned from my gig with Playyoo only to agree to enter a formal relationship with Aug 1. The software housed on Google Code supports data-visualization and manipulation that let users create new versions of the original video (=data). You can - of course -share your product with your friends, embed it into your iGoogle page or upload it to the dedicated YouTube group to show off your creativity.

Video-creation is a tough topic for user-generated content as it involves time, dedication and proper tools (same is true for games) to create value.

This step might lead the way into cross-fertilized content-creation and viral marketing campaigns. It certainly offers new ways to engage with the customers/audience and give them something (a so-called social object) to play with/share. Gotta observe this!

Twitter - another early adopter tool you might say - is being increasingly adopted by marketing and pr people. They start listening to what is being said about the brands they represent; they interact and try to connect in order to build trusted relationships or conversational focus groups I might say. Getting your stakeholders into constant conversations guarantees early insights and the option to influence.

I remember the days when we talked of blogs as early warning systems and means of engaging with your customers - it’s quite clear that Twitter replaced (will replace) them. Now while one conversational tool follows the other and while frequency of speech acts increases at the same time the amount of content per utterance decreases. It seems to me that we are somehow moving towards an ant-like state where based on many but simple rules and conversations a lot of things can be achieved.

But don’t forget only a tiny fraction of the living even have a slight idea of what I’m talking about in this lengthy post. It’s quite clear that both forms of conversations (blogs, Twitter) are still avant-garde to many of us except the younger generation that grew up with social network applications like facebook, bebo, myspace etc. Now I wonder about the generational gap that is slowly emerging. Is it just another juvenile disruption or a more fundamental shift towards an ant-state.
