Leavin’ Playyoo

I don’t like to stay away from my family for too long. There isn’t enough funding available yet to support the family relocation. So after 5 months of weekly commuting between Vienna and Lugano we – Playyoo and me – decided to part company. We will stay friends and I will have a close eye on what they are cooking up in the future.
I’m grateful for all I learned about the mobile space while feeding my knowledge/experience of the social web to the team/project.
I also got to know great people on the way. I don’t start mentioning them here but they’ll know anyway.

I’m on vacation for a few days and then back to work in the respective field of social applications/services.

So – happy playying then.

“Will D2C drive mass market content consumption?”

Brief reflection on what’s going on in the mobile space. Since I’m with Playyoo – a mobile gaming platform – that’s something we think about every minute. Still not easy.

Will D2C drive mass market content consumption?: “The mobile web is making off-portal content more compelling to consumers. But I’m not sure I agree that direct-to-consumer will be the primary driver of mass market content consumption.”

Mobile is “Stagnating,” Must Evolve

Well, I think we at Playyoo are addressing many of the issues raised: costs for porting to different devices, game creation, and game types.

GDC: Mobile is “Stagnating,” Must Evolve : Next Generation – Interactive Entertainment Today, Video Game and Industry News – Home of Edge Online: “But the panel also presented a variety of ways the industry is evolving to combat the problems of encroaching stagnation.”

We tackle the challenges in manifold ways: we are dedicated to casual games, with Flash Lite we try to circumvent the porting issue, and with free and (expert and novice) user -generated content we strive to solve the issue of innovation and creativity.
What’s missing – in terms of implementation – is the business model. More on that later. Just one hint: advertising will play an important but not exclusive role.

World Mobile Congress

I’m again traveling. To Barcelona this time. The World Mobile Congress takes responsibility. I’m here for Playyoo to hook up particularly with everything Flash Lite. Unfortunately my day started off with some hassle. The hotel lost my registration and I was relocated to Hotel Tres Torres, some outskirtish place – far away from everything. (btw: German localization is more than fun – why is this necessary I don’t get it)

Nonetheless I made it to the congress just to figure out that you actually had to pay to get WiFi-access isn’t that ridiculous at the World Mobile (sic!) Congress – well at least I got a free pass for public transport .
After coping with this challenge I managed to talk to ~~Chris~~ Bill Perry from Adobe, James Spahn from Cell, and Mario Tapia. Some challenges ahead for the Flash Lite community I’d say.
Nothing specific of course just Flash Lite penetration is around 400 million devices right now and then the advent of Flash capable mobile browsers
